Frequently Asked Questions
When do I need to schedule my appointment? My schedule fills quickly - usually several months in advance. The sooner you reach out to get on the schedule the better! You do not need to have your wedding gown in hand in order to schedule your appointment - in fact, I highly suggest not to wait that long to ensure we can fit you on the schedule. Wedding Gown Alterations: your first appointment will be scheduled to be about 10 weeks out from your wedding date. This allows for plenty of time to complete your alterations but isn't so early that we risk needing further alterations as your wedding date approaches. Heirloom Redesigns: For heirlooms that are being redesigned into dresses, we need about 10 weeks to bring your vision to life. For heirlooms that are being redesigned into robes, accessories or christening gowns, we need 6-8 weeks to bring your vision to life.
How should I prepare for my fitting? - Bring your gown on a hanger and in an appropriate garment bag. If you do not have a garment bag, I will provide one for you - wedding gown bags are $10, formal gown bags are $3. - Heirloom dresses - it is okay to bring your heirloom in a preservation box. The cost of your heirloom redesign includes a new garment bag for your dress or robe. - Bring the exact shoes and undergarments you will be wearing with your gown to every appointment. These items play a critical role in how our clothes fit and our overall posture. I am unable to mark the length of your gown without the correct shoes on, if you forget your shoes we may need to schedule an additional appointment which will result in an additional fitting fee. - If you need help choosing undergarments that work with your gown, I’m happy to help chat through options. I have bra cups available to add to dresses as well. - Hydrate! Please eat as you normally would on the day of your fitting and drink plenty of water. Standing still in a fancy dress can be harder than you think! - Be mindful about wearing heavy make-up or having a fresh spray tan before a fitting. We want to keep your gowns clean and free of stains. - Please be prepared to chat about any weight adjustments you have planned for yourself at your first fitting so we can be sure to properly accommodate when pinning and planning.
What is your guest policy? You are welcome to bring one or two supportive guests with you to your appointment if you wish. Space is limited so please keep your party to 3 people, max (including yourself). All guests should also arrive on time so we don’t disrupt the flow of your fitting. If you wish to facetime with a loved one during your fitting, this is fine! If you are bringing a guest to your fitting whom you do not want to see your gown (partner, father, etc.) please note, there is not a place for them to wait inside. They will need to wait in the car or I can direct them to a coffee shop nearby. Please note - My fitting space is in an upstairs room of my house. Please understand that you will need to go up a flight of stairs, once inside, to reach the fitting room. Please share this information with your guests. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Any children under the age of 10 must have an additional adult with them who is not trying on gowns to ensure safety.
What if the heirloom I want to use is stained or yellow? Cleaning your heirloom gown is part of the process I provide. Most stains and yellowing can be removed through the cleaning process. Sequins that have yellowed over time are usually going to stay that color since they are plastic.
Can we work together even if I live further away? I have worked with clients all around the country! If we are redesigning your heirloom into something that needs to fit your body well (a rehearsal, shower or reception look), our appointments will need to take place in person. If we are redesigning your heirloom into something that does not need to fit your body well (robe, accessories, veil), we can arrange for your to mail your heirloom to me and keep our meetings virtual.
